Personal stories on Feeling Feeling 44
Message :
Ocean crossings are not really our idea of fun, so we wanted a boat that’s big enough to offer plenty of living space down below and on deck, but not so big that we couldn’t handle it easily when just the two of us were aboard. The size we settled on as being ideal is around 13.4m (44ft). We kept thinking about our home sailing area of the South Coast and about how much fabulous sailing and gentle motoring is off-limits with a fin keel yacht with a draught of 1.5-2m (5-7ft). Think of all the harbours, creeks and beaches that are off limits for a fin keeler in Devon, Cornwall, Brittany, Normandy and the Channel Islands. Sailing on the high seas is a pleasure, but so is hiding up a shallow creek, watching the sun set with a gin and tonic in hand. Particularly if no-one else can get there... That’s why we wanted a lift keel boat and we chose one from Alliaura. We preferred the way the Feeling sailed, especially in light airs, and we also preferred the interior design. She is airy, light, and has three real, full-size double cabins, and the master cabin in the forepeak is everything we wanted.
